Essex Man by Coleen J.B. Wood

This is the story of Barry Betts, a working class lad growing up in a small Thameside village in the 1950’s. Having a keen sense of humour, coupled with an avaricious thirst for knowledge, but prone to daydreaming and literary reveries — he copes with the conflicts and issues involved with his family, studying, interest in the opposite sex and the trials of admission to the Essexus sapiens class.
